KEY INFORMATION
100% Sports & Education Centre is a specialist sports and education AP designed to instil positive social, academic and sporting impacts for all our students – as they are at the heart of what we do. We seek to empower our students and develop well-rounded leaders through our unique and applied programmes. 100% SEC provides opportunities to study towards a GSCEs/ BTEC Sports qualification, whilst partaking in practical, sport-related activities and learning.
The 100% SEC programme provides students real life experiences of working within the sport sector with clear and direct post-16 routes and Academy programmes, coaching or employment.
The curriculum offers both non-formal theory and practical activities aiming to help students re- engage in learning and develop the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for employment in the sports sector as well as provision designed to help students develop their English, Maths and ICT skills.
The centre is based at Barking Rugby Club and is run by Eugene Dwaah who heads up the Evolution Sports Group. Its governance lies with Mayesbrook Park School and the interim Management Committee comprises members of the LA Inclusion teams, rugby Club representatives, Headteachers and Pat Hayes from Be First.
The centre’s first intake will begin their courses in September 2022 and we will cater for between eight and twelve Key Stage 4 students in the first instance.
BTEC Sport (Level 1 and 2), English, Science and Maths GCSE/Functional Skills, ICT, Employability (Level 1 and 2) and Careers guidance, FA Level 1 Coaching Certificate, First Aid Certificate
Leadership course – Marketing course – Athletics Coaching Badge – Health and Safety – Nutrition – Communication Skills – Entrepreneurship course – Sports Leaders Awards
Young people aged 14 – 16 (KS4) meeting at least one of the below criteria:
– Currently disengaged from traditional schooling
– An interest in sport and wanting to achieve industry recognised qualification
– At risk of or currently excluded from mainstream education looking to secure a post-16 pathway.
Referrals are made by individual schools using the established system which feeds into the FAP/ Rapid response team. Evolution CEO, will attend all these meetings. If a placement at is considered appropriate for the student’s needs 100% SEC will immediately set up a meeting with the student and his/her parents ain order to facilitate the process.
Five days per week . The programme runs 9.00am to 2.30pm (Breakfast & lunch provided). Based within Barking Rugby Club and also from offsite satellite provision. All of which provide a unique learning and sporting environment with relevant work experience in the industry.
Learners are expected to travel independently to the Barking Rugby Club, though 100% SEC is happy to work with referring schools that prefer to transport their students in to the provision. Learners are expected to wear appropriate clothing when attending.
